It's not just our comms that are purpose-driven.

We were recently lucky enough to have former journalist Monica join us for a couple of weeks’ work experience. Originally from Italy and now based in Scotland, Monica helped out across J&G, from press releases to pitches. Over to her for more about her experience…

Ever since I went to school, I’ve had a fascination for the charity sector and a huge interest in social themes. Even after I finished school and started working as a journalist for a local news outlet in Italy, these were the kind of stories that interested me most.

This is probably why it was love at first sight when I discovered Jack & Grace.

Using comms as a force for good

My search for a job in PR has been long and tedious. But I recently found out about B Corp certification. And purpose-driven agencies. That’s how I came across Jack & Grace.

A whole new world opened in front of me. A brand-new way of doing PR and comms: using them as a force for good.

It reminded me of a conversation I had in college with my lecturer. She said PR is a useful tool for not-for-profit companies and charities. During my two-week work experience with J&G, it really felt like the work we were doing had purpose beyond just profit – it’s was great!

Meaningful purpose, meaningful experience

It wasn’t just the purpose that was meaningful.

When I first emailed J&G, I was told they could offer “meaningful” work experience too. And it’s really delivered. They drafted me a full schedule, which matched everything I’d requested when I first got in touch.

I was particularly keen to write as much as possible and was given plenty of opportunities to do just that. From drafting press releases to social media posts, and blogs to media pitches. Despite some challenges, I loved every single second of it!

A welcoming team

Something else that immediately surprised me was the team spirit at the company. Despite being a remote-first agency, J&G is truly a team. If life ever gets in the way of work, someone is always available to pitch in and help out. And I really felt part of the team, it was like I’d worked there for years – not just two weeks.

Beyond the many things I learnt or perfected during my time with Jack & Grace, I will leave with the feeling that I played my part in the company, even if just for a short time.
